A checkout checklist for dog boarding

The moment a dog goes home is the last thing an owner remembers about the stay. A rushed checkout, a missing lead or a bill nobody can explain can undo weeks of good care.

A short checklist, followed the same way by everyone on the desk, keeps departures calm and leaves the owner with a clear picture of what happened while they were away.

Belongings back, checked against the list

Before the owner arrives, gather everything that came with the dog: the bed, lead, toys, food and any medication left over. Check each item against the list made at check-in, and the photos if you took them, so nothing is left behind and nothing is disputed.

The final bill and payment

Count the stay to the day the dog actually leaves, not the date first booked. Add any extras used during the stay, subtract what has already been paid, and show the owner a statement with the same lines. Record the payment and how it was made before the dog leaves the building.

Notes for the owner

Tell the owner briefly how the dog ate, slept and behaved, and mention anything they should watch at home, such as a change in appetite or a small scratch. If medication was given, say when the last dose was. Owners value honest notes more than a simple 'all fine'.

Follow up a few days later

A short message a few days after the stay, asking how the dog has settled, shows that you care and often surfaces small problems early. In Kennelio, the stay is billed to the real departure date by one billing engine, the statement prints in English or Arabic, and follow-up calls after a stay appear as a list for staff to make.

Questions, answered

What if the dog leaves earlier or later than booked?

Bill to the day the dog actually leaves, following the rule written in your terms, and tell the owner before they pay.

Should I give the owner a written statement?

Yes. A statement showing the nights, extras and payments lets the owner check the bill and keeps your records clear.

When should the follow-up message go out?

Two or three days after the dog goes home is a common choice, once it has had time to settle back in.
